2010

It has been a busy year and I am quite behind in my updates! So I will have to fill everyone in on my adventures... so far.

Lee and I were able to sneak away to Florida in February for a two week vacation.  It was a wonderful vacation and we were able to relax knowing that the horses were in good hands.  A big thank you to my mom (Shawna Camphaug) and Janina Tierney for looking after all of the horses while we were away.

In April a local high school student, Lisa Wood, started helping out at the farm. The horses LOVE her and it is a huge relief to have an extra set of hands during the weekends and summer months.

In the spring Flamboyant and I attended a clinic with Gina Smith before starting our first competition season together.

We have been 3rd level Champions at all four shows that we have attended (in Manitoba and Saskatchewan) and we have been undefeated in all 16 classes that we have entered. We have achieved scores up to 67.2% and with a little work we have potential for much higher scores. We ended the season at the Saskatchewan 3rd level Provincial Champions.

I also had three students travelling with me to competitions (Gail Jorstad, Leah McCullough and Grace McCullough). They are riding training, first and second level tests achieving scores up to 64%. All three of these students have just started showing dressage and are riding horses that I have trained at one point.

Leah ended up the Reserve Provincial Champion at 1st level. She was riding her  ¾ Andalusian mare Brooke (sired by Lepanto and out of Seville). Leah bought Brooke from us in 2008 and it has been a pleasure watching them develop together.

Grace won all of her Hack classes at the Provincial Championships. She was riding Ledger a four year old purebred Andalusian gelding (sired by Lepanto and out of Rory). The McCulloughs bought Ledger from us in November 2009 and Grace has been enjoying him thoroughly.

Gail achieved very respectable scores in 1st and 2nd level (up to 64%) and won a reserve  Championship  for her division at the Ebon dressage festival.  She was riding Improvidsado (aka Provi) my up and coming FEI horse. Gail started riding Provi in late May and entered her first show in early June. They formed a partnership quickly and have learned alot from each other. Thanks for taking such good care of him Gail!

In October Gail, Provi, Flambo and I are attending a clinic with Gina Smith in Winnipeg. I love these clinics! We always come away with many new exercises to work on.

Shortly after we return home from Winnipeg my mom and I are flying to London to begin our 3 week tour of England, Scotland, Holland, Germany, Poland, Austria, Italy and France!  I can hardly wait!!

And I want to thank everyone who has bought horses from us this year:

  • Cheryl Mangasarian - A US Judge who purchased Monaco and plans to show him at the Advanced FEI level. I could not have dreamed of a better home for my best friend.
  • Kayla Hauer - A Jr/YR from Edmonton who purchased Winston with the goal of competing at the NAYRC.
  • Gail Jorstad - Purchased her first Andalusian! Nasha will be in good hands and I can’t wait to see them in the show ring next year.
  • Dianne Thompson - Purchased Makenzie a ¾ Andalusian mare from us in March. With only a few short months together this pair has won many championships in Ontario at training level with scores up to 74%!!  Makenzie finished the year as the Caledon Cadora Open Training Level Champion! Congratulations!!
  • Dianne Stanley- Purchased Karat CF a three year old gelding sired by Lepanto and out of Kourante (KWPN).  This is Dianne’s second Lepanto baby and we wish her lots of success in the FEI four year old division next year!
