2007What an amazing year! My Mother, Monaco and I travelled to Brockville Ontario in Early June to train with three time Canadian Olympian Gina Smith. We had never worked with Gina before but had heard wonderful things about her and we were not disappointed. Gina rides and trains out of Franklands Farm. A beautiful farm filled with wonderful people and horses. We were able to spend 2 weeks working with Gina before we hit the shows. We had a great time and Monaco and I learned a lot! While we were in Ontario we were able to show at a large CDI show held in Ottawa. This was the biggest show we had ever entered and it was incredible. The horses and riders were amazing! There were close to 20 competitors in my classes which is huge considering the biggest class we have ever shown in had maybe 10 riders. We showed at the national level and placed 2nd in the PSG with a score over 65% and third in the I1! We certainly had not expected this as we had never shown at a show like this one before. Monaco is such an amazing horse! |

After Ottawa we headed out to Blainville Quebec to compete in our first CDI competition. My husband Lee was able to fly out and cheer us on and that made it even more special. Monaco and I had our fist “jog”. The jog is done before multiple vets to ensure that horses are fit to compete and Monaco passed with flying colours. We then went on to ride in our first class. It was pouring rain but Monaco and I were warmed up and ready to go. We entered the ring ready to ride our fist CDI and the lightning started to strike... So we were told to hurry back to the barn until the storm passed. When it was finally clear we set out to warm up again for the class. Unfortunately, Monaco was a bit sore and we were unable to compete. It was possible that he strained himself on the slick footing going back to the barn. We were pretty disappointed but my Mother, Lee and I decided to make the most of our trip and so some sightseeing while we were in Montreal. We ended up coming home as planned after the Montreal show. The 32 hour drive was treacherous but the three of us handled it without any trouble. Monaco went to the vet as soon as we returned home and after the three day drive home there was nothing wrong with Monaco. Thank goodness... a mild strain. Two weeks after we returned home my mother and I set out to compete in Saskatoon. A great show with great people. Monaco put in amazing performances, scoring from 66-71% in the PSG, I1 and Freestyle. And my mother showed her horse Booker (Lepanto’s son) in their first show and won their first training level test! A great show for both horses. Then in the Fall my mother and I travelled to Red Deer to compete at the Alberta Provincials and the Western Regional Championships. Monaco and I were the Reserve Advanced Alberta Provincial Champions with scores ranging from 64-66 percent and we were also the Reserve Advanced Western Regional Champions with scores between 65 and 66%. And to top off a wonderful weekend Monaco Won the Freestyle and was crowned both the Alberta Provincial and Western Regional Advanced Freestyle Champion with a score over 69%. What a special horse. Based on our results this year Monaco and I have been long listed with Dressage Canada! What an amazing year! I really want to thank Sayoko and Lee for all of their support this year but I especially want to thank my mother. She has been by my side cheering Monaco and I on every step of the way. |
